Marketing on a Budget: Free and Low-Cost Tools Every Notary Should Use

Jul 11

3 min read

Let’s be real for a minute, marketing as a notary doesn’t always come with a big budget. Especially when you’re just starting out or in a slower season. But here’s the good news: you don’t need to spend a ton of money to show up like a pro. What you do need is consistency, a little creativity, and the right tools in your back pocket.

Marketing on a Budget: Free and Low-Cost Tools Every Notary Should Use, The Notary Business Blueprint®

In this post, I’m sharing the exact free (or super low-cost) tools I recommend to notaries in both the U.S. and Canada. Whether you're doing general notary work, loan signings, or remote online notarizations, these tools will help you show up, stay organized, and connect with clients without breaking the bank.

Canva: Your Branding Bestie

You don’t need to be a graphic designer to make your business look polished. Canva is a free design platform that makes it easy to create flyers, social media posts, business cards, and more. They’ve got pre-made templates you can tweak with your own colours, logo, and info.

  • Real-world use: Post a clean, professional "I'm a Notary!" announcement on Instagram or print a leave-behind flyer for local businesses. Trust me, good visuals make people take you seriously.

Calendly: Let Clients Book Themselves

Imagine this, a potential client wants to book with you and instead of the back-and-forth “What time works for you?” you just send them your Calendly link, and boom they pick a time that works based on your availability.

Calendly offers a free plan that’s more than enough to get started. You can sync it with your Google Calendar so you don’t double-book yourself.

This tool screams professionalism and saves you hours every week.

Google Calendar: Your New Assistant

If you’re still writing your appointments in a notebook or trying to remember them in your head, it’s time to upgrade. Google Calendar is free, easy to use, and integrates with just about everything Calendly, Zoom, Gmail, the list goes on.

Use it to block off time for signings, marketing work, or family time. Color-code your appointments so you can glance at your week and instantly know what’s what.

Bonus: You can set reminders so you never forget to prep for that appointment or follow up with a client.

WhatsApp Business: Fast, Professional Communication

This one’s a hidden gem. WhatsApp Business lets you keep your notary convos separate from your personal messages. You can create quick replies, set your business hours, and even add a mini catalog of your services.

In Canada and many U.S. cities, a lot of clients prefer texting over calling. WhatsApp lets you text, call, and even send your location or a document all in one app without giving out your personal number if you don't want to.

CapCut: Easy Video Editing for Reels and Stories

If you’re posting videos (and you should be), CapCut is a great free app to help you edit. Whether you’re sharing a “Day in the Life of a Notary” or a quick explainer on how your services work, video builds trust fast.

CapCut works beautifully for TikTok and Instagram Reels. It comes with templates, effects, and captions, and you don’t need a tech background to use it. Just start with short clips and get more confident over time.

Think of it as your content creation wingman.

Apple Business Connect (and Google Business Profile)

If you want to show up when someone searches “notary near me,” this is essential. Apple Business Connect is the Apple Maps version of a business profile. Most folks forget about this but iPhone users rely on it every day.

Claim your free profile, add your hours, services, and photos, and start collecting reviews. While you're at it, make sure your Google Business Profile is also fully set up and updated.

These are two of the most powerful free marketing tools that help people find you without you having to chase them down.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a big marketing budget to grow your notary business. What you do need is the willingness to show up, use the free tools available, and stay consistent.

These tools won’t just make your business look better, they’ll make you feel more confident and organized. And that confidence? That’s what attracts clients.
